Public Power

Eon thinks it's outrageous that private, for-profit monopolies are allowed to jack up rates even as they subject Brooklyn to crippling outages, continue to burn fossil fuels, and earn massive profits off our monthly bills. Eon will stand against rate hikes, use his position to hold utility monopolies accountable, and push relentlessly for the full implementation of the Build Public Renewables Act, a transformative law that empowers construction of state-owned, union-built, not-for-profit, 100% green energy sources like wind and solar farms.

The utility bills are too damn high! Eon knows why: Our state has granted legal monopolies to corporations like ConEd and National Grid, giving them free reign to charge you more and more every year. Even as shareholders’ profit margins increase at the expense of working New Yorkers, Black and brown neighborhoods suffer disproportionately from blackouts and service interruptions.

In Albany, Eon will fight to stop rate hikes and hold fossil-fuel monopolies accountable for exorbitant rates and unacceptable service. He will push to fine polluters and use the money to fund sorely-needed clean energy and climate resilience projects.

To break the power of energy monopolies and put New York on the path toward a sustainable future, Eon will push the state to fulfill the mandate of the Build Public Renewables Act and begin the construction, by union labor, of wind and solar energy projects across our state.

These new green energy sources will be owned by the New York Power Authority, not the energy monopolies. By introducing a publicly-accountable, permanently sustainable alternative to corporate greed and fossil fuels, we will chart New York's course to a brighter, greener future — while lowering our energy bills!
