Housing

This neighborhood's soul is being ripped out by landlords and real estate developers who see our homes as nothing more than assets from which to squeeze a profit. Renters and homeowners alike are under threat from the same predatory real estate companies. Eon will stand up for his neighbors and fight to defend tenants, stop rent hikes, keep people in their homes, build deeply affordable, green housing, and prevent Big Real Estate from taking over Bed-Stuy & Crown Heights.

As a lifelong renter, Eon is tired of seeing rents skyrocket as real estate corporations push people out of their homes. He will push to expand Good Cause Eviction to protect renters in small & new buildings, and for the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, which will give New York tenants the first option to purchase their building when a landlord puts it up for sale.

NYCHA has repeatedly been the victim of austerity, underfunding, and efforts to privatize buildings and kick tenants out. Eon spent part of his childhood in the Pink Houses in Brownsville, and has seen firsthand both the damage of this neglect, and the vital stability that NYCHA housing provides. He will always vote to protect NYCHA from the real estate lobby and fund long-overdue upgrades.

The homeowners of Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights are constant targets of predatory real estate companies and deed thieves. Eon will fight to give homeowners the resources they need to defend against deed theft, end tax breaks that help luxury developers tear our community apart, and end real estate speculators' harassment of our elderly neighbors, who deserve to grow old in their own homes.

Eon proudly supports Assemblymember Emily Gallagher's plan to create a Social Housing Development Authority to build hundreds of thousands of deeply affordable, permanently sustainable units of housing. The Authority will build new housing with entirely union labor, use every tool at the state government's disposal to acquire land and disused buildings for new homes, and create permanently rent-controlled units and housing cooperatives, making for truly stable homes. All new buildings will be designed with an emphasis on permanent sustainability, minimizing emissions, and creating beautiful, new green spaces for residents to enjoy.
