AI Regulation

The AI lobby is rapidly pushing us into a world where our jobs, climate, and safety are in jeopardy. Unlike his opponent, Eon rejects the idea that this profit-centric future is a foregone conclusion. Instead, Eon believes that technological advances should benefit social progress, not stop it in its tracks. He will fight for stronger regulations, improve safeguards against AI scams and child harm, and support the Data Center Moratorium.

New Yorkers did not ask for a slew of energy-guzzling data centers to be constructed in our backyard, driving up our energy bills and doubling down on our reliance on fossil fuels to fund chatbots and spam.

Eon will not allow tech companies and their lobbyists to put our state on the path towards a jobless future of climate degradation and AI slop. He supports a moratorium on data center construction and refuses to take money from the AI lobby trying to foist them on New Yorkers.

Earlier this year, New York reached pole position in the national fight against AI with the RAISE Act. But the race doesn't stop here, as this was only a first step born out of heavy compromises with the AI lobby.

Eon supports the New York Artificial Intelligence Act, a crucial step towards accountability and transparency. This act regulates the use of AI by targeting algorithms that cause discrimination (e.g., in the employment process), requires audits of high-risk AI systems, and grants more power to the Attorney General to discipline AI companies.

As a father, Eon is deeply concerned by AI tools that fail to protect children from inappropriate content and by the AI-generated scams and fake information which bombard New Yorkers of all ages.

Eon supports a two-year moratorium on generative AI in NYC Public Schools, allowing the Department of Education the time to develop a comprehensive safety plan before AI is implemented in schools.

Eon will always seek ways to hold companies accountable for user safety and reduce the risks of unchecked AI use. That includes supporting the current bills sponsored by Senator Kristen Gonzalez to shield minors from chatbots with poor safety guidelines, and to block chatbots from impersonating licensed professionals.
